Tiki Torch Table Planter

Tabletop Tiki Torch – Dollar Tree Planter DIY

Create a DIY tiki torch for your outdoor patio with Dollar Tree planters, pebble rocks and some used tiki torches you may have on hand.

Hey there!  It’s sippin’ & swingin’ on the porch or patio season, and you know what that means. . . MOSQUITOS!  ok, let’s take care of that and also set some mood lighting too!

Keep mosquitos away with tiki torches

Today, we’re making a Tabletop Tiki Torch.  I know you have all seen or used the tiki torches that are on poles, whether, they be made from metal or bamboo.  They are great and when you use mosquito replant oil, they do help to keep those blood-suckers away.  Well, I had a few of the bamboo ones for years and the bamboo just finally rotted enough for me to have to throw them out, but the torches were fine.  So, I decided to repurpose them and make them look a little better than some nasty black can sitting on my deck.

I found these cute hexagon shaped plastic planters from Dollar Tree.  Really you could use any planter, but I just thought these were different and they were the perfect size and depth for what I needed them for. I wanted them to have a stone or concrete look to them and I found this textured spray paint from Rust-oleum and decided to give it a try.

First, I need to prime the planters.  I forgot to pick up some primer, so I just used Waverly White Chalk Paint to “prime” it and give something for the textured spray paint to grip to. I put on two coats of the chalk paint and two coats of the textured spray paint, letting it fully dry between coats.  Make sure you use a mask when using the textured spray paint.  I about hacked up a lung spraying that stuff and it does get on everything, so make sure you cover any and everything you DON’T want textured paint on.

It really came out great with a cool effect!

Next I took these Pavestone River Pebbles that I got at Walmart for about $4 for the whole bag, and just laid a thin layer at the bottom of the planter for the torch to sit on and raise it enough to clear the top of the planter.  I then filled the rest in with the pebbles and then DONE!

I filled the torches with a mosquito repellant oil fuel that I got at Walmart as well. This was really simple and and did not take that long to make. It’s a great solution for those nice evenings on the porch or patio and pairs well with wine or iced tea (of course).  Invite a friend over and get your sippin’ and swingin’ on!  Enjoy!
